I was trying to explain to Jonah what an aviation checkride was yesterday. For those that don't fly it can be a little tough to explain. In all facets of aviation checkrides are an ever-present reality. Much more than an objective test, a checkride combines an oral evaluation of your knowledge with a practical application of your aviation skills under fire. Some of us look at checkrides as a opportunity to showcase our skills while others stress out to the point of physical illness. The reality is that once a year, your job is literally on the line.
I helped counsel a young Delta pilot over the weekend who was relieved of his position with Delta after "busting" several attempts at his checkride. Needless to say, with proper preparation checkrides shouldn't be a big deal and Rob and I are well prepared today!
Pictured are Rob and I in the Simulator yesterday and the simulator itself!
